|Located on the north coast of Trinidad, Blanchisseuse was visited in 1870 by the famous English poet Charles Kingsley who left impressed with the area's greenery. Bathers can enjoy the water of the Caribbean Sea on the beach of Paria Bay. The beautiful Marianne River, which runs through this town, is a mecca for Spritual Baptists to practice their religion, and for Hindus to celebrate the Ganga Dashera (also Dashara) Festival (see picture at right) which commemorates the day on which it is believed that the River Ganges descended from heaven and first touched the earth, after being released by Lord Shiva.|
