The village of Cunupia is located in the midst of fields of sugar cane and can be accessed by the Uriah Butler Highway, south of El Socorro. Cocoa was also grown in the area but, by the 1990s, the world demand for sugar and cocoa had declined and Cunupia's residents were forced to seek a living elsewhere, from Port-of-Spain in the north to Chaguanas in the south.
Steelbands: The following is a listing of the steelbands that functioned in Cunupia, broken down by type: traditional (pans supported around the neck); and conventional (pans supported mechanically).
