WEST  SIDE  SYMPHONY

This band was formed in 1963 with a nucleus of players from North Stars, including Herman "Rock" Johnston who became West Side's leader, tuner, and arranger. It was an instant success when it won the 1964 Steelband Music Festival. The band later changed its name to Sunjets when it gained the sponsorship of BWIA. West Side Symphony finished among the top three steelbands in the following significant competition:
