CAREER: Basso's creativity was first displayed when he designed for a Carnival band from Belmont, Port-of-Spain. He worked from his own studio in Belmont where, unable to afford electricity, he painted at night with the aid of kerosene lamps. He painted with oils and focused his attention on subjects from the era when Trinidad was under colonialist control. His economic status notwithstanding, Basso was the first man to break the social barrier at the Trinidad Art Society when he became a member and was active in its management. His work was exhibited throughout Trinidad & Tobago. |
