CAREER: Janelle left Trinidad when she was 13 years old and migrated with her family to New York, USA. She returned to Trinidad in 1976 and went on to win the Miss Universe title as Miss Trinidad & Tobago in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on July 16, 1977. She was the first Black woman to win the award. She also copped the Miss Photogenic title at the same contest. In honor of her accomplishment, three T&T stamps of different denominations bearing her photos were issued. |
