  • CAREER:                                 Maharaj became a journalist with a local daily newspaper in Trinidad at the young age of 16, and went on to become the editor of its Sunday edition. She worked as a public relations officer at the University of the West Indies while, at the same time, coproducing a successful series on Trinidad television. She left Trinidad in the late-1980s and began writing fiction. She worked as a editor of an international women's magazine in Rome, Italy, and later worked in Hong Kong. In 1990, she settled in Amsterdam, Holland, where she continued her writing career. Maharaj wrote the following books:
