CAREER:                                 St. Lewis began his choreographing career in the late-1950s while he was a teacher at Newtown Boys' RC School. He later formed the Hummingbird Dance Company and taught dancing, specializing in bele, shango, bongo, and calypso. He danced at The Little Carib Theatre under Beryl McBurnie and collaborated with her in August 1962 to choreograph a dance program that included over 1,000 school-children. The performance was part of the celebration of the Independence of Trinidad & Tobago and was attended by Princess Margaret of England. He was later involved in choreographing shows for visiting dignitaries such as Queen Elizabeth II of England and Haile Selassie of Ethiopia. His MFA thesis was titled "A Comparative Study of Dance and Dance Forms in the Caribbean with Specific Reference to Trinidad and Haiti."
