  • CAREER:                                        Growing up in Cocorite, David Zephrine began playing the steelpan with the West Side Symphony Steel Orchestra nearby in St. James; West Side later changed its name to the Sunjet Steel Orchestra. While with the Sunjets, he performed in Canada, Sweden, and at Radio City Music Hall with the Rockettes in New York, USA, in 1965. He migrated to the USA in 1969 to attend school and pursue his music career. He was one of the founding members (along with Roger Greenidge) of the CAISO Steelband in Washington, DC, in 1979. CAISO has performed overseas in Kosovo and played the U.S. National Anthem at the 1982 NBA season opener between the Washington Bullets (now Wizards) and the Philadelphia 76ers baketball teams. The band performed as the opening act for the Beach Boys concert on August 27, 1995, in Harve de Grace, Maryland. CAISO has also appeared on the Fox 5 television station in Washington, DC.
