INTRODUCTION

This website documents the cultural and sports history of Trinidad & Tobago as the country functioned from the 20th century onward. The focus is on: (1) the cultural events of carnival, divali, and hosay; (2) calypso and steelband music; and (3) sporting accomplishments in cricket, soccer, and the Olympics. A brief description of the communities of the country is also included. In addition to the achievements of the men and women included in the categories above, recognition is also given to those who made significant contributions in the areas of entertainment, fine arts, literature, and other sports. The site profiles over 500 individuals and groups. For the foreign visitor, this website provides some insights into the traditions that are so dearly held by those who were fortunate to be born on the cosmopolitan island of Trinidad, also known as the Land of the Calypso.
