Calypso 1990 - 1999

Tambu began the decade by winning his third consecutive Road March title. Blue Boy changed his name to Superblue and won four more Road March titles during the decade. The ten Calypso Crowns were won by nine calypsonians; only Cro Cro and Black Stalin were repeat winners. In 1994, Luta and Delamo shared the Calypso Crown, the first time this result occurred after 42 years of competition. In addition to the winners listed below, other calypsonians who had hit songs during the 1990s include Explainer.

Lord Kitchener completed his 6th decade of singing and, in spite of the increasing popularity of soca music, continued his mastery of the calypso beat. Although he did not win any titles, his calypsoes Iron Man, Mystery Band, and The Guitar Pan were the tunes of choice for the steelband Panorama winners in 1990, 1993, and 1997, respectively. The following are the results of both the Road March and Calypso Crown competition.
