Carnival 1970 - 1979

Mas lost an icon in this decade when George Bailey passed away on August 14, 1970, at the young age of 35. In recognition of the contributions of some bandleaders to the development of Carnival, the following awards were given by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago during the decade:

During this decade, the Band-of-the-Year awards were won by Stephen Lee Heung (3), Irvin McWilliams (3), Wayne Berkeley (1.5), Edmond Hart (1), Peter Minshall (1), and Bobby Ammon (0.5). Other bands during this period were Neville Aming, Mack Copeland, Stephen Derek, Raoul Garib, Owen Hinds, Maverick, and Harold Saldenah. The following is a listing of the presentations of the winners of the Large Band-of-the-Year competition during the 1970s:
