Carnival 1990 - 1999The Large "Band of the Year" award was changed to the "George Bailey Band of the Year" award in 1994 in tribute to the great mas icon who passed away in 1970. In recognition of the contributions of some bandleaders to the culture, the following awards were given by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago during the decade:
The decade was dominated by Wayne Berkeley who won five consecutive Band-of-the-Year titles from 1990 to 1994. Peter Minshall followed Berkeley by winning three consecutive titles from 1995 to 1997. The other winners in this decade were Masquerade (1) and Legends (1). Other bands during this period were Neville Aming, Barbarossa, Stephen Derek, Raoul Garib, Owen Hinds, Stephen Lee Heung, and Poison. Rosalind Gabriel had a big impact in the Children's Carnival arena. The following is a listing of the presentations of the winners of the Large Band-of-the-Year competition during the 1990s:
